SYNOPSIS:When I was a boy, I met a girl.
She didn’t know it then, but…
She changed me. Now…..I am a man.
A man who is broken by the stories of the women who come to me.
They are my birds with broken wings.
I help them heal, help them to make them strong, so they can fly free.
Lark changed me. Loved Me. Made Me Strong.
With her, I am free. I write…
To the girl of the past.
To the girl of my present.
And, the girl of my future.

This book made me so emotional. I cried like a baby through half of it! Like seriously! This was my first book my J.B. Hartnett and I am completely and utterly hooked!
The storyline was flawless. I loved everything about it. It was intriguing and the fact that this tattoo artist was such a soft-hearted man to actually want to help the women he did was fascinating. Even though he had his own demons and his own flaws to deal with. I’m telling ya’ll now…Nico will take over your heart and he won’t let go.
Nico’s character has a lot of depth and I really like that in the main male leads. He’s more than just your everyday run-of-the-mill tattoo shop owner. His character was instantly likable and very relatable. I didn’t think the story was far-fetched at all. Even though readers instantly take a liking to him J.B. Hartnett still shows his flaws and I think that makes him even more appealing. I know it did for me because I wanted to wrap him up in my arms and find ways to make him smile forever. In NICO alone he deals with all of these women who need help from their abusers, watches his mom go through some pretty big situations, and deals with sharks. (Yeah, that’s right…I said sharks.)
Lark is a very likable heroine as well. She also has her own demons that’s she’s dealing with and this makes her real. She’s very different than some of the other main female characters I have read because she isn’t this innocent little girl. She’s a woman who isn’t afraid to admit when she needs something & she gives as good as she takes. I think she fits Nico’s personality perfectly.
This book has many ups and downs and your heart will break multiple times just to be put back together again. You see a lot of abuse victims and serious situations go down. You get a glimpse into that pain this survivors deal with and your heart aches for them, but it makes you fall in love with Nico even more.
I loved how J.B. hartnett entwined both Nico & Lark’s story. I caught onto it fairly early on since there were multiple hints but when everything came out in the open I was shocked at the way in which it was handled.
NICO is a beautifully written story about two people who learn to move on from the past, accept their demons, and learn to love again. The previous two books in the Leaves series are definitely on my TBR list now after falling in love with Nico!
