My Likes: Who wouldn’t love a tattooed hunk with a soft caring side? Yes, exactly. I fell in love with this book from the brief synopsis I saw while searching netgalley. From the first paragraph to the very last sentence…I was hooked! I will forever be a Kylie Scott fan!
“I woke up on the bathroom floor. Everything hurt. My mouth felt like garbage and tasted worse. What the hell happened last night? The last thing I remembered was the countdown to midnight and the thrill of turning twenty-one, legal at last. I’d been dancing with Lauren and talking to some guy. Then BANG! Tequila.”
This book was a perfect mixture of sarcasm and drama. The storyline was solid and the characters were well developed.
My Dislikes: After the initial shock of waking up married the relationship between Evelyn and David went a little too fast for my liking. What girl in her right mind would succumb that easily to a man who she doesn’t even know? But as the story progressed everything kind of fell into place and I didn’t really notice the speed in which their relationship developed as much.
My Summary: We are introduced to Evelyn in the most interesting of ways: the bathroom floor. She’s hungover and hurting. She has no clue as to what happened last night and at the moment her head’s hurting a little too much to think straight enough to figure it out. Then she hears him…a voice that makes her whole body turn to liquid. She has no idea who this man is but he’s a god-like creature. He’s tattooed with dark hair and sideburns. Yep, your typical yummy bad boy type. **feel free to swoon here, I did.** She eventually notices the huge ring on her left hand and immediately freaks. She’s married….to this hunk?!? Yep, you (and she) guessed correctly. While she’s freaking (and puking) he gets upset and storms away. After her awful encounter with her husband she heads back home in hopes that everything will go back to normal and this horrible nightmare will be fixed. Well, she thought wrong. The paparazzi is going nuts and soon she can’t even stay at her house or even her parents. Why the paparazzi you ask??? Well, he’s your run of the mill everyday rock legend of course. Wow, huh? She eventually has to leave and head back to the sexy, rock god. In LA with David, Evelyn doesn’t fit in. David stuffs her in a room, sees him run off with a groupie, and gets manhandled by Jimmy, who by the way is a very important character, but thankfully her hubby dearest comes to the ah…rescue. Things just get crazier from here. At this point every time these two talk an argument is imminent. The sexual tension as well as the chemistry between Evelyn and David is intense…explosive even and we, the readers, can’t get enough. When you think the craziness is ready to die down you are slung back into another whirl-wind of crazy. This time it has to do with a very feisty PA, a bunch of lawyers, and money being thrown around like it’s nothing. Finally, here we see Evelyn’s breaking point. She storms out the door, takes a swing at David’s best friend then goes with him (the best friend, not David) to his place to cool off. Pretty chaotic, huh? It’s awesome and dramatic…everything a good book should be. Now, to me, this is where the story gets interesting….we see a small glimpse of the caring side of David. Just a small glimpse…enough to perk up our interest but then that’s it. David comes and takes Evelyn away to his home and there is where the chemistry really starts getting hot…steamy….so much so that it is practically impossible to put the book down until you squeeze every last drop from the magnetism of David and Evelyn together being happy. Don’t worry..my mouth is sealed. I’m not spoiling the good, good parts.
As with any good time, it has to come to an end. David and Evelyn have to go back to LA. Granted they’ve came to an agreement but we must remember David is a rock-god..things will NEVER go smoothly. Evelyn finally gets to watch the band play in all its glory but the rush of excitement is short lived. She goes searching for David afterwards and finds him in a very compromising situation. (Hm, should we see what his little PA has been up to?) After awhile it seems like that is that. They are apart and it’s miserable. Evelyn’s hopeless and depressed…everything we women experience while going through a break up she goes through it, but thankfully friends are there to help her. David finally comes back into the picture. He then spends the next chapters trying to get her to talk to him so he can open up about his past and how what happened wasn’t his fault and why people that weren’t suppose to be in his life anymore were still in his life. Eventually things right themselves but as with any relationship…it’s takes awhile for trust to build back up.
Ms. Scott ended this book beautifully. I loved it! It was a perfect ending to a great book…a book I might add will be read over and over again by me.
Would I recommend this book? Abso-freakin-lutely! It was awesome. The way she described the emotions Evelyn felt had me feeling like I was actually going through it myself. She details everything so beautifully. I could actually see scene by scene play out. I also loved the characters playfulness and sarcasm. It definitely made this book worthwhile! I look forward to reading everything else Ms. Kylie Scott has to offer!
