Lisa Renee Jones has been a favorite author of mine forever. She has an amazing writing style; she has a way of pulling readers in and absorbing them into the story. I never want to come up for air when I’m reading a book by her. I want and need more and with the Dirty Money books 1-3, Hard Rules, Damage Control, and Bad Deeds, were no exception!!! These books were so full of mystery and passion!! It left me on the edge of my seat, wanting to know more, and swooning so hard for the main characters.
In Book 1, Hard Rules, I found myself instantly intrigued with the mystery surrounding Emily and the drama surrounding Shane’s family. I was taken with this series from the first few chapters.
It’s clear from the start that Emily is trying to start over from whatever life she lived before she moved to a new city. It also seems pretty early on that she’s running from something, but needing to stay in contact with someone. It’s all very shady and mysterious. She keeps to herself until she meets Shane and he’s not someone you can stay away from. Something is pulling them together and neither of them can fight it.
Shane works for his father who is sick and isn’t expected to live much longer; it’s now between Shane and his brother Derek to figure out which way the company will be moving. The only problem: Shane and Derek are polar opposites. Shane wants to keep things above ground, legitimate, but Derek isn’t afraid of getting what he wants by unethical means.
When Emily and Shane meet both are instantly attracted to one another and Shane refuses to let her say no to him. Shane is all alpha male and you can tell throughout the entire book. Their chemistry is off-the-charts amazing!!!! You can’t help but love them together, even when their worlds are complete chaos around them. But in this game of win or lose who will take all? The secrets are big and the drama even bigger….will chemistry be enough to keep these two together???
Book 2, Damage Control, it becomes very apparent (if you didn’t already know) that LRJ is a mastermind when it comes to writing angst. This book had me on edge from page 1 because the secrets are finally slowly but surely revealing themselves. I wanted to cover my eyes and hide at times, because I swear my heart just couldn’t take it!
Elder Brandon’s illness is back with a vengeance and Derek’s unsavory relationships are really starting to heat up and cause trouble for the Brandon empire. All this on top of Emily’s whopper of a secret.. It’s a lot of stuff piling up and for Shane it’s getting harder and harder not to become pulled in all directions.
My favorite aspect of this book is seeing how the superior alpha male that is Shane show this huge soft part of him when being with Emily; they are perfect for one another, but are the secrets big enough and bad enough to tear them apart?
“I wonder,“ I say my gaze finding hers, heat simmering low in my limbs, one part lust, another part fury, “how it is that I didn’t taste your lies. I wonder if they’ll taste differently now that I know they exist.”
Both have a lot they are fighting against and a lot of distrust starting out in this book…the game is getting more and more twisted, and as a reader it was a ride of a lifetime to take. LRJ really knows how to keep you engaged and emotionally connected, and that’s exactly what I am…emotionally connected to these characters in a big, big way.
Book 3, Bad Deeds, picks right up where Damage Control tapered off. Shane is temporarily in control of the Brandon empire while his and Derek’s father tries one last hope in trying to beat his cancer. With Shane as acting CEO Derek fills this is only allowing Shane to further get rid of him, and believe me…it’s not going over well for him. Derek has truly made a mess of things and fixing them isn’t going to be an easy task for Shane. He comes out in this book swinging from page one and the twists and turns are, at times, so dark it’s hard to tell if he and Emily will come out better and in piece.
It’s obvious in this book that Emily and Shane lean on each other; they are each other’s goodness when everything else is shrouded in evil. They are truly each other’s saving grace and it’s amazing to watch! Shane is such a great hero…he is definitely one of my top favorite men of all time. The way he is with Emily will have you gasping for breath and wishing with all hope that Shane Brandon is real!
“I know it’s with her that I will always find me.”
This series is so good; face paced, drama filled and passion rampant. Just a heads up though….there is a huge cliffhanger after Bad Deeds; it left me on the floor in a blithering heap. I loved every second I spent reading this series and the entire series is definitely a 4.5 read for me! I can’t wait for End Game that scheduled to be released January 2, 2018!
