Wicked Dirty (Stark World #2) by J. Kenner
(can be read as a standalone)
Release Date: September 19, 2017
Rating: 4 stars
Synopsis: Sometimes bad isn’t good enough…
On the outside, Lyle Tarpin is a clean-cut Hollywood actor whose star is on the rise. Inside, he’s battling his own demons, shunning relationships and finding solace in the arms of a string of anonymous women paid very well for their discretion.
But when he’s photographed in a compromising position by an over-eager reporter, the only way to save his career is to say that the woman he was with is his fiancée. And now Lyle has to play a very public game with the only woman who’s ever managed to get under his skin.
Struggling waitress Sugar Laine agrees to spend one night with Lyle—but only because she’s desperate to save her family home. She never expects that a night of passion will turn into a pretend engagement … or that the heat between them will blossom into love.
But sometimes love has a price.
And now the only question is—can Lyle and Sugar afford to pay it?

Lyle Tarpin is a A-List Hollywood actor and everyone’s golden boy. He has a reputation to protect and he does it quite well…up until Sugar Laine comes along and his perfectly crafted life starts getting a lot more interesting. You see….Lyle, while definitely being the Hollywood golden boy who’s charming, charismatic, and perfect in every way, he also has his own demons, and he keeps those demons at bay by having unemotional, random hookups with high paid call-girls. This plan has worked so far for him; it keeps his emotional baggage out-of-the-way while paying a pretty penny and never using the same girl twice. No nonsense, no emotion, no connection.
“What I want—what I’m paying for— is the cymbal crash at the end. That release. That moment when everything shatters. I’m not paying for pretty words and flowers.”
Sugar Laine is in a bind and needs a lot of money fast. She’s doing the best she can by working odd and end jobs along with her regular jobs, but it’s just not cutting it. When a friend introduces her to the call girl business she’s baffled at first but ultimately she just can’t resist the amount of money that comes with the job.
“Sex is a tool, and it can either build or destroy.”
Overall, J. Kenner made this book into so much more than I thought it was going to be, and she does this to me every single time! This is a series I can fall into and not want to walk away from. The characters touch you and leave you thinking about them for days, and when an author can do that…it’s an amazing feeling.
The story progressed at an amazing pace and the plot was intriguing and kept me entertained for hours. I didn’t want to put this book down; I was sucked in from the very beginning and was sad when it was over.
