What will happen… when Jenn learns the truth that has been brewing deep inside me?
…when she learns my desires have been restrained?
…when containing them is no longer possible?
Will she flee when there’s no place to run?
Traveling to the isolation of a tropical island, we agree to lay our marriage and our future on the line. It’s the only way to face the demons—my demons—that threaten our life together.
For us to make our marriage work, we must break down barriers, reveal the hidden places, and shine light where darkness has taken root.
This reprieve from life is meant to be about us, our marriage, and our future.
It is…until the unexpected happens…
Will our marriage survive? Will we?
This suspenseful, steamy stand-alone novella follows Paul and Jenn Masters, characters previously introduced in the novella UNCONVENTIONAL. This quick, spicy story may be read completely on its own or even before UNCONVENTIONAL.

Unexpected is the perfect read for someone who loves something quick but suspenseful. There were so many twists and turns to this short book but every step leads you to an amazing ending. At first I didn’t know how this book was categorized as suspense, but towards the end we see it. It’s light on the suspense in my opinion so don’t expect this whirlwind “oh no! what’s gonna happen next” feeling, but with that said I feel like the amount that it included was perfect for this story.
The characters were easily relatable. I think in every relationship there is a time when you think ending it would be for the best of all those involved, but then decided against it in hopes of giving it one last try. Marriage is hard and when there are secrets involved, it’s even harder. We see that with Jenn and Paul. We see the love that’s still there even though they are thinking of calling it quits, and we also see the fight that both of them have to keep their marriage alive.
The plot was well written and kept me glued to the pages. Watching Paul and Jenn come back together and, not only rekindle what they thought was lost, but also to learn each other again was like a breath of fresh air. It was real and relatable on a level that I fee like I’ve been missing in some of the books I’ve read as of late. It really gets you thinking on how well you really know your spouse or significant other, and if you would be able to give up your deepest secret if you knew that it would probably affect them on some level.
Overall, it was a great, quick read with some real steamy scenes and a marriage that you can relate to all too well. Also, I think it’s wise to warn you that there are things and issues that may trigger some, so go into this carefully. I really enjoyed this book!
Unconventional is the first in the Vault series, but each book can be read as a standalone.
Synopsis: Erika Ellis is available to everyone, each night, on their TV—news at five-thirty and again at six o’clock.
Viewers think they know her.
They don’t, not like I do.
I’ve watched her—closer than the others—not only on the news, but at all hours of the day and night. I’ve taken my time and learned her routines and her secrets. I know what she needs.
I’ll bring her fantasies to life, even the ones she’s yet to realize. I’ll be the one to teach her that in submission there is power. She’ll understand that she doesn’t need accolades from her viewers or the world. She doesn’t need to be primped and primed. My praise is what she’ll live for. Bound and helpless is where her freedom will be found.
The truth behind the stage makeup and faux laugh is that she’s mine—nothing she can do or say will change that.
She doesn’t know my unconventional plans.
It’s time to make my move.
I’m Victor Cross, the only man for the job.
