The thrilling conclusion to Crown of Lies from New York Times Bestseller, Pepper Winters
Since my life changed for the second time and not necessarily for the better. Two years since I traded prison bars for streets and hunted a runaway who I’d met in an alley.
Since I forgot how to lie, woke to fists, and chased after the girl who’d been stolen from me.
To save her, rescue her, keep my lies intact. She looks at me full of hate. I look at her full of confession.
For our relationship to switch from mutual dislike to floundering with unknowns. I’ve hurt her. Now, she’s hurt me. I guess we’re even.
For her to listen, to see, to finally know who I am. The answer comes with hardship. The answer isn’t what she wants to hear.
For me to walk out the door.
For it all to be over.
Holy hell! When I found this jewel in my kindle app I devoured it immediately! I had it finished within hours of starting it and I hated to see it end. Pepper had me hooked from the very start. We all remember how Crown of Lies ended so I was very thankful to see that Throne of Truth picks up right where the other left off and I was, again, thrown into Peppers’s world of deceit, confusion, and all-too-alpha Penn Everett. I’m telling ya’ll…once you get a taste of Mr. Everett he will definitely be your new obsession!
“His eyes met mine again, narrowed and dark and full of murder. His fists clenched with no other weapon but his hate. He was utterly sublime. And totally terrifying.”
The characters were portrayed really well just like in Crown of Lies. This book further proves just how strong Elle really is. She went through hell and back during this book and she kept her head held high the entire time. I love her ability to appear vulnerable without appearing weak…not many heroines can pull that off, but Elle certainly did. To me, Pepper gave us a side of Penn we didn’t get a chance to see in Crown of Lies. Oh, I loved him and loved to hate him in the first book, but in Throne of Truth he was…simply more. He opened up in a way we didn’t see, but desperately wanted to in Crown of Lies. His character had growth and I loved watching it play out scene by scene.
“Because for the first time in my life, I need to do the right thing. You helped me so much, Elle. Let me help you…”
Everything flowed really well; at times the pace of the story was intense, but I believe that is something to be expected in a Pepper Winters book. She leaves you breathless and confused on minute and then you turn the page and you’re left feeling breathless for another reason altogther! Speaking of which…the sexiness factor that come with Pepper Winters is definitely in this book. But she also gave us more than just raunchy scenes….she gave us love and pain and an intesnity that is uniquely Elle and Penn. I couldn’t have asked for a better ending.
“His kisses came wrapped in apologizes and screw-ups. His nips were loaded with passion and love. He held nothing back. Giving me everything he had left to give.”
Overall, I loved this book. It had everything I was looking for in a story all wrapped up in the chemistry that made Penn and Elle amazing together. I’m a Pepper Winters fan for life.
