Irresistible attraction. Unimaginable danger.
I knew from the moment Noah Williamson walked into the diner that he was haunted—deeply haunted—but I couldn’t resist the lure of him. He was gorgeous and fascinating and mysterious, and like a delicate moth to a brilliant blue flame, I was drawn to him. Drawn to his fire.
But if I’d known about his job, about what happened to his wife, I’d have run the other way. Before I got caught up in the red-hot blaze of his life. Before everything in my world got burned to the ground.
It’s too late to run now. I hesitated and that was it. I fell. I fell for him before I knew there was danger in loving him.
Noah once told me that this is the way we burn—together or not at all. At the time, I didn’t know what that meant.

The Way We Burn
by M. Leighton
Holy wow! This book is so much more than I thought it was going to be! Everything about The Way We Burn is amazing…from the characters to the plot…to the overall feel and pace of the book. I loved it all. Michelle did such a great job at putting you inside the story; wondering what will happen next and gutting you so thoroughly in a way that will leave you raw and open.
“This is the way we burn, baby. We burn together, or not at all. I’m in this forever.”
If you think you know what’s going on in this story I promise you’ll have it all wrong. The plot was so surprising and when you finally figure it out, you’ll want to hug Michelle for giving you this book. I don’t even know where to begin or what to say that won’t give anything away. Noah and Poppy, the two main characters, as well as every single one of the other characters in this book are so well developed and immediately relatable. Both have suffered such traumatic events, you’ll want to wrap both of them up and never let them go.
Noah wears agony like a second skin; he’s been through something so horrific that even after almost two-years, he still can’t move on from it or let it go. He keeps searching for answers even in a very dim situation. His search brings him to a new town and this is where he meets Poppy. Poppy works at a diner he frequents and at first they never speak. It goes on for months even though Noah always sits in her section and/or asks for her. Until one day, he asks her out and so their whirlwind romance begins. It’s a slow burn in a way, but there’s so much passion and chemistry between them.
Michelle delivers us this story perfectly. She gives us twists and turn and huge surprises that will leave your jaw on the floor. It’s beautiful in a hauntingly twisted way that I’m pretty sure I’m going to be thinking about for weeks! Ya’ll..I’m so in love with this book. It is one of my favorites of 2018!
