HARBOUR FALLS by S.R. Grey (Harbour Falls Mystery #1)
Publication Date: November 1, 2012
My Rating: 5 stars
Best-selling author Maddy Fitch, while researching material for a new novel, returns to her hometown of Harbour Falls to investigate an unsolved disappearance that has haunted the tiny Maine coastal town for the past four years. Although the case has gone cold, Maddy soon discovers that the prime suspect, Adam Ward, is hotter than ever.
The sexy, secretive Mr. Ward now makes his home on an isolated island near the coast, so Maddy takes up residence nearby to find out why this enigmatic man lives in such a secluded place. Is it because the missing person at the heart of the case, a young woman, was engaged to Adam at the time of her disappearance? Did the prime suspect perhaps move to escape the town’s scrutiny, or is he hiding something much more sinister?
As Maddy plunges into the case, she and Adam are drawn together. Should she fight her growing attraction to a possibly dangerous man? The mystery deepens, and the list of suspects, people who all had reasons for wanting to see the missing young woman gone, grows. Maddy hopes that by solving the mystery Adam will be proven innocent of any involvement, and they can then move forward with their relationship. But as she uncovers clues that begin to lead suspicion away from Adam, new secrets emerge that leave her questioning everything. Maddy continues to close in on the truth, threatening to blow the lid off the whole mystery. But what she doesn’t realize is that she’s actually caught up in someone’s very dangerous game.
Lies, secrets, deceptions. In Harbour Falls, nothing is ever what it seems. This steamy novel immerses the reader in an intricate storyline that will keep them glued till the very last page.
I read the first two books in the Harbour Falls Mystery series (Harbour Falls & Willow Point) back when they first came out but I was feigning for a good mystery earlier this week and S.R. Grey will forever be my “go-to” author with her Harbour Falls Mystery Series because it’s just that good.
HARBOUR FALLS is the first in this series and it starts off with Maddy coming back to Harbour Falls to investigate an unsolved murder mystery because she’s a mystery novelist and wants to dabble in non-fiction mysteries. The people involved in this terrible mystery are people she went to school with so it makes it pretty personal for her, and it doesn’t help that she’s been crushing on the number one suspect, Adam Ward, for quite some time.
The plot in this story is quite amazing and throughout the entire book you really are wondering, “what the hell happened to Chelsea?” because Ms. Grey writes this in a way that makes you want to solve the damn thing before the book ends just to see if your private-eye skills are as good as hers! This book kept me involved the entire time (even reading it the second time around). Going back and re-reading it kind of gave me a challenge because I wanted to look for clues. haha.
The characters in this book are pretty well-written and when you first start reading everyone…and I mean everyone is a suspect. Maddy is down-to-earth and likable. Her inquisitive nature gets her into trouble a lot of times but in the end it was totally worth it because she eventually gets the answers she’s been wanting. Adam, at first, is surrounded in mysteriousness and you can’t help be compelled to this character. When he’s introduced you fall even more head over heels with him because he just has that “alpha-male, I’m going to rule the world and you’re going to love it” aurora about him. We find out some pretty disturbing details about his previous relationship and proposal to Chelsea which leaves him looking like Chelsea’s captor/killer. He has many reasons to want Chelsea gone but then again…so does half of Harbour Falls.
Is the rich, famous, & down right sexy Adam Ward capable of murder or is he just the convenient person to pin all of this on? In the end the truth comes out but when you start to think the story is over and everything is perfectly fine..that’s when the story really starts getting good & it’s when you definitely need to pick up WILLOW POINT. HARBOUR FALLS doesn’t really have a cliffhanger but you definitely need to go ahead and buy WILLOW POINT before you end HARBOUR FALLS because trust me…you’ll want it immediately at your disposal.
If your into mysteries with sexy men and stubborn heroines who can hold your attention and not let go until you have read everything there is to read then this book is definitely for you. The storyline was flawless and the characters were relatable. There seriously isn’t anything that you wouldn’t love about this book. Well, if you’re not into mysteries with a sexy man (who could be a potential killer) and a stubborn woman who gets herself into loads of trouble with sexual chemistry between those aforementioned people that will light your socks on fire then yeah..look elsewhere 😉
