Fifty years ago the Commander came into power and murdered all who opposed him. In his warped mind, the seven deadly sins were the downfall of society. He created the Hole where sinners are branded according to their sins and might survive a few years. At best.
Now LUST wraps around my neck like blue fingers strangling me. I’ve been accused of a crime I didn’t commit and now the Hole is my new home.
Darkness. Death. Violence. Pain.
Now every day is a fight for survival. But I won’t die. I won’t let them win.
The Hole can’t keep me. The Hole can’t break me.
I am more than my brand. I’m a fighter.
My name is Lexi Hamilton, and this is my story.
Let me just say that I’m a sucker for a good dystopian themed book and BRANDED does not disappoint!! I was hooked from the synopsis down to the very last page and then I was left wanting more! More of this world where the seven deadly sins is just that…deadly. The whole idea behind this book is freakin’ amazing. I was intrigued from the start and I fell completely in love with this world and the Hole. It was unique and creative. I was also left hanging on the edge of my seat through most of this book! Abi & Missy…if you’re reading this….OMG! Women! You nearly gave me a heart attack a few times! The sinners series is dark with a romantic twist thrown in and you are left reeling because this world Abi & Missy creates is so…genuine and descriptive that you seriously feel like you’re there. And it definitely leaves you wondering…if YOU were thrown into the hole, which sin would you have?
The storyline is brilliant and, to a point, flawlessly executed. From the start you get the backstory on how this “new world” came to pass and what the Hole is. You are also bombarded with descriptive details that leave you with such amazing pictures in your head. Again, this whole book was pretty well thought-out. The only thing I wanted more of was character POV’s. Actually, I just wanted… more…of like….everything because that’s how amazing this book is. You get drama, action, a strong heroine, and a hottie for the male lead. Abi & Missy not only suck you in and make you sympathetic for Lexi, they make it to where you empathize with her. You feel as she does. You cry with her and celebrate her small victories. By the end of this book you are ultimately rooting for her because she deserves something good…something better.
Overall, the characterization was well-developed and the pace in which the story flowed was decent. Lexi is a strong individual and even though we see the times where she’s at the end of her rope wanting to give up, she always pushes forward. She’s a fighter through and through and I love that about her. If it were me in her shoes I would have crumpled into a ball and wailed uncontrollably. But not her. Cole, the mysterious guard who doesn’t want but wants Lexi. He is a conundrum that I absolutely adore. Remember when I mentioned above that I wanted more character POV’s well his is the one I was referring to. I want inside Cole’s head. I want to know why he made the choices he did. I want to know what helped him go from distancing himself from Lexi to wanting to be with her no matter the consequences. I understand it to an extent but I. Want. More. (You hear me, Abi & Missy?!? lol)
Again, this book is amazing. It is definitely one of my favorite dystopian themed novels. Abi & Missy are brilliant and I can’t wait to see what the future hold for them!!!
