Twenty-two years ago, I was cut from a cold, sodden womb, and cradled in the filth and poverty of Chicago’s concrete arms. Statistically, I wasn’t supposed to survive these streets past the age of eighteen.
Fate had a different plan.
I was bred for one purpose and one purpose only: to unleash death and destruction on my world.
My thoughts are power.
My words are weapons.
Evil created me then grace tried to save me. But first… they tried to kill me.
They call themselves the Se7en. They are sin and salvation, and everything we’ve feared from the beginning of time. And their leader is the deadliest of them all.
He doesn’t lose.
He doesn’t compromise.
And most importantly, he doesn’t distract himself with mortal weakness.
Not until me.
Kill one to save a million.
That’s what he told me when he took me as his prisoner.
Kill one to save a million.
That’s what he’s been trying to tell himself ever since he took me into his arms.
I have loved S.L. Jennings’ work ever since I found the Dark Light series so it doesn’t take much to get me interested in her work. All I have to do is read her name and I immediately know I’m in for the ride of my life. And boy oh boy!!! This book did not fail me!
The world Jennings created was intriguing and pulled me in instantly. Without giving too much away, the Se7en are not worldly based, but instead they were created and bred in the fires of hell. But they’re not what you would think they’d be. They’re more and I found it fascinating how each of them were portrayed and what they have come together to do for humankind. The leader of the Se7en sinners, as depicted in the blurb, is the deadliest of them all and he’s mysterious and alluring right from the start.
“I am Hell on earth, Eden. But that doesn’t mean I want to be.”
He’s a very complex character with a lot of mystery surrounding him. There are assumptions, secrets, and legends about this manbeast that will make you cringe, swoon, sigh, and throw your hands up in the air, but believe me….you’re going to want more of him!
“We’re all sinners, Eden. Some of us just sin differently than others.”
The heroine, Eden, has a very intriguing background as well. She has an ability unlike anything I have ever read before and it’s pretty unique and damn right scary in its own right. To some, she may come across as week, but I think her character comes across as believable….real even, because if it were me being placed in the Se7en’s line of sight and I definitely wouldn’t be all he-woman! To me, she’s strong in her own way and by the end of the book I was really proud of her and shocked at her character’s overall storyline.
“Somewhere in a distant corner of my mind, I remember that I should hate him. Should fear him. But now I fear something else entirely. I fear myself.”
The entire plot was executed amazingly and kept me interested and wanting more the entire time I was reading it. The characters, overall, were portrayed really well even though I wish Jennings would have given us more background info on all of the Se7en. I’m hoping that’s something she touches more on in the next installment.
This book does end in a cliffhanger so be prepared! End of Eden, book 2, will be releasing on 2/26/2017
