Singing in the shower takes on a whole new meaning in Melissa Pearl’s first Contemporary Romance.
Ella Simmons does not want to move across the country. But she is, because her boyfriend has persuaded her to join him at UChicago to finish out her college education. Never able to tell him no, she hops on a plane and makes the trek from LA expecting to adjust to life like she’s often forced to, but things are not that simple when she hears a luscious voice singing over her shower wall. His deep, sexy tenor makes her weak in the knees, spreading fire through her limbs and making her question everything about her life and relationship.
Can one voice really have that much of an impact?
Cole Reynolds is on his way out. In his final year at UChicao, the only this he wants to do is finish school and get on with this life. But the sweet voice that interrupts his morning shower turns his world upside down. Compelled to find his shower songbird, he begins a search across campus. The only thing to distract him from this goal is his roommate’s gorgeous girlfriend who’s just arrived from LA – Ella Simmons.
Relationships are put to the ultimate test as future dreams are questioned and friendships are thrown on the line for love.
FEVER was an amazing story about two people destined to be together but reality just kept getting in the way. This was my first book by Melissa Pearl and I have to say it lived up to what I expected and then some! Her writing style is uniquely her own and I greatly enjoyed the HEA.
The storyline was flawlessly executed and it followed a pace that I was happy with. It captured my attention from page one and I didn’t want to put this book down. I was enthralled with the lives of Ella and Cole. I just kept wanting more and more. I really liked how this book was focused around these characters’ love for music. It brought them together in such an unimaginable way. **swoon** It was simply stunning.
The characters were well developed. They were relatable and just plain likable. Even the secondary characters were flawless and I thoroughly believe that secondary characters can make or break a book! I connected instantly with Ella. It may be because I can relate to her timidity and hope to please the people around her or the fact that she was real. She wasn’t some “made-up bimbo.” This character has depth and I loved that about her. Cole’s character is gorgeous inside and out. Yes, he came across as a playboy but Melissa didn’t play that up so in my eyes he didn’t have any character flaws. At times, he seemed too good to be true and most of the time that doesn’t work for me, but with Melissa Pearl…she made it work. Cole came from a rough childhood, as did Ella, so I think that makes him “see” the world differently. He has compassion with Ella and his friends because he knows how it feels not to be shown any. He’s a genuinely good guy and that makes him the ultimate book boyfriend for me!
Together Cole and Ella face some challenging situations like Ella’s boyfriend and his friendship with said boyfriend. It seems as if life just keeps throwing obstacles in their way and at times, it was heartbreaking to watch these beautiful characters go through what they did. But when things are good for them it is electrifying.
[Cole] “You sound like an angel… a voice straight from heaven.”
Overall, I really enjoyed FEVER. I loved the musical connection woven throughout the entire story, I loved the characters, and I loved the storyline. It pulled me in and I instantly wanted more once the book was over!
